Stuttgart, November 12, 2015 Press information CHARLES ESCHE, ABDELLAH KARROUM, AND VASIF KORTUN RESIGNED FROM THEIR POSITIONS AS BOARD MEMBERS OF CIMAM The directors of three renowned museums and art institutions—Charles Esche (Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven), Abdellah Karroum (Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha), and Vasif Kortun (Research & Programs at SALT in Istanbul)—have resigned from their positions as board members of CIMAM – International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art. Their resignation is based on their lack of confidence in the board of CIMAM and its current president, Bartomeu Marí, who censored an artwork shown in The Beast and the Sovereign, an exhibition that was coproduced by the Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart (WKV) and the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA). “We are very pleased about this act of solidarity and this clear positioning against censorship.
